Making wheel studs look pretty

Post by Adrian »

Hi, my Series 3 Lightweight is fitted with Wolf wheels and the longer wheel nut studs.
As you can see in the photo, the studs stick out about 10mm from the wheel nuts, go rusty and look bad.
How has anyone else cured this problem?
All suggestions are gratefully received and will be considered carefully 🤓

I'll photograph my solution tomorrow.

This is what I 've done. The nut at 10 o'clock is a locking nut.
I've no idea where I got them (it was a very long time ago) but I would point out that I don't have extended studs. The military never bothered with them and had no problems . The nuts are about 3 centimeters long.
I can't see any nuts on line that are long enough to cover your studs. I suggest you contact Emberton Imperial who might have a solution. The number is on their website and the re open Tuesday 7th. They sell all manner of bits and may have a cover to suit.
I've just read an article in the current issue of LRM about 4x4 tyres based in Stratford upon.Avon. They sell wheel nuts and it might be worth contacting them to see if they've got anything suitable.

Sorry for the slow response, the system wouldn’t let me log in. Then without seeming to do anything different, it just let me in!
Thanks for these ideas.
I had heard the army didn’t change the studs. Met a chap in a pub one night who told me he’d had a contract to go round fitting Wolf wheels to the Lightweights. He said they just did them up another 15ft/lbs. I started that way but they just didn’t look right with the threads recessed in the nuts.
I’m familiar with Emberton Imperial, I’ve bought several bits from them. So I’ll check what they can offer.
Another option might be to take an angle grinder to them and chop off the excess. 🪚
