Searching for this part on line showed that the genuine Smiths ones arebecoming virtually unobtainium being replaced by that dreadful universal 2 piece one which has to be measured for the correct length then clipped together. The one I had fell apart in the tank but with the help of a magnet on the end of a bendy rod I fished all the bits out and replaced it with a proper one from Emberton. They're now out of stock so I turned to Blanchard's. They have only diesel ones which are identical apart from the extra terminal for the low level warning light so while they're still available I've ordered one as a spare.

I crimp some short lengths of brake pipe onto the two piece sender units, I encountered an issue with a NOS sender unit in that modern diesel rotted out the rheostat after about 24 months

Wow!

I wonder what's in modern Diesel that could explain that, biodiesel or some other additives?
