LEAK FUEL TANK HOSE

Post by markjlo »

Hi guys. I have a S3 88 and due to rot the fuel tank was leaking so I changed it for a nice rust free tank from a diesel S3. The tank is under the floor below the drivers seat. I found it very difficult to push the metal tube on top of the tank onto the rubber filler hose - even with the drivers seat removed access is poor - so when I pour petrol into the tank (via the filler in the rear wing) I see petrol dripping onto the floor. Is there a knack or tip to ensure everything is attached properly ?

I fitted a replacement tank years ago,( the recent one I had ASV fit it). I don't recall problems fitting the rubber hose. It is the same one 543764 for both petrol and diesel tanks. Make sure the tank metal pipe is clean and perhaps try some soap or washing up liquid on it. You could try warning the rubber tube gently with a hairdryer too. It's a matter of perseverance. The hose has a bend in it so make sure it's facing the right way.
