Carburettor Woes

Post by Greg »

I'm hoping for some advice....

I've got a 1968 Series 2a 2.25L Petrol (88'). Over the winter I replaced the field tank, and refurbed the carb which is a Zenith 361V. A first for me, so I was quite please that it all seemed to go well, and I got her started again fine. Then....... I spotted that petrol was issuing at a fair rate from around where the fuel pipe connects to the brass on the carb.

My initial assumption was that as I hadn't changed the olive on the connection it was leaking from there. However, armed with a new olive I just went to change that and as I undid the connection between the brass and the fuel line, the brass tube came out of the carb!

So two questions:
1. Can that be repaired easily? At home or pro job that needs sending away?
2. Or if it is game over for that carb, what are people's thoughts on the different carburettor options open to a 2.25L petrol?

Thank in advance. Greg.

I've heard of this happening before. It might be worth trying Araldite tofix the tube back in or maybe soldering. Welding is definitely out.
It might be worth contacting BFS in Salisbury or the Carburettor Exchange in Leighton Buzzard for advice too. I reckon it'll be saveable.
I wouldn't belong to a club that would accept me as a member (Groucho Marx).

Thanks for your reply. Yes I did read somewhere that it might be possible re fix it with an epoxy resin but definitely not a weld!

thanks for tip re the carburettor exchange I'll have a look at them.

Cheers.
