Could be daily backups scheduled for that time causing slowdowns?Neil Bymouth wrote: Wed Aug 12, 2026 8:21 am It's back to normal. Why does it happen around the same time late afternoon around 5.30pm?
Or more likely, AI agents scouring the forum for data.
You guess is as good as mine…

[...] I've got a spare electronic one to fit when I get around to the dreaded job of pulling the instrument cluster forwards.
Honestly, it's not that dreadful.
Remove the steering wheel (after marking the position on the steering column), unplug the speedo cable from the cluster, and you have ...

Re: What have you done with your Series 3?
The way the metallic strip works is by interrupting the circuit. It shows on a digital voltmeter, the readings fluctuate constantly, whereas an electronic device produces stable readings on the digital voltmeter.
It's actually well described in the page I've linked previously:

Re: What have you done with your Series 3?
There's a very easy way to tell whether the voltage stabilizer is using a bimetallic strip or an electronic device...
With the bimetallic strip, voltage oscillates constantly, whereas an electronic device produces a stable, steady 10V voltage.
And to check, the easiest way is to unplug the ...

Re: What have you done with your Series 3?
I am even considering fixing the old one using an LM7810, just for the fun...

Re: What have you done with your Series 3?
I assume this is an electronic one inside.
Considering an LM7810 is worth a few pennies, it's probably a lot cheaper and easier to produce than the old fashion bimetallic device.

Re: What have you done with your Series 3?
After replacing the water pump and the fan last weekend, I found that the temperature would still read a bit high to my taste...
The I realized the fuel gauge was also unreliable and would report a fuel tank full even when half empty!
So I checked the voltage at the temperature sensor on the head ...

Quota exceeded, cannot add attachments
Trying to attach an image to illustrate one of my posts, the attachment fails with:
"Sorry, the board attachment quota has been reached."
(This is in the " What have you done with your Series 3? " thread if that matters).
Perhaps we could reduce the size of some of the images there to free up ...
